Farewell Huub Meijers

On 8 January 2026, Huub Meijers (Associate Professor of Macroeconomics) will say farewell to Maastricht University. Next to his research, Huub has been closely involved in the faculty’s teaching for many years, serving, among other roles, as programme director, master’s director, portfolio holder for education, and scientific director of the teaching institute. He has always considered it important to teach himself and to remain in close contact with students.

In line with this commitment, he would greatly appreciate a contribution to equal educational opportunities for first-generation students in honour of his farewell.

Equal educational opportunities for young talent

Access to education should be possible for everyone. Yet, for some young people, attending university remains an almost unattainable dream. Despite their talent and determination, they face social and financial barriers. The Equity and Inclusion Programme of the University Fund Limburg is dedicated to helping these young talents - for instance first-generation students - by facilitating scholarships. A scholarship not only opens the door to higher education, but also significantly improves career prospects. Thanks to a scholarship from the Fund, 45 students have already completed their studies at Maastricht University.
