Meet the Team!
Behind our groundbreaking science and art project stands a team of dedicated individuals who collectively form the backbone of HeArt Ma'at. From artists to cardiologists, psychiatrists to professors, and ofcourse patients - our team represents a rich diversity of talents and expertise. Curious to meet the faces behind our project? Allow us to introduce you to five dynamic members of HeArt Ma'at!
Carsten Leue is a hospital psychiatrist at Maastricht UMC+ specializing in psychosomatics. He has expertise in integrated care and explores how emotional symptoms arise and can change in physical conditions. Carsten says, "Heart feelings often receive little attention within cardiology care pathways. The best way to change that is by providing integrated care. This includes involving caregivers with an eye for heart and soul."
Susan van Hooren is a professor of clinical psychology at the Open University and department chair of Clinical Psychology. She researches the effects and mechanisms of (art)therapeutic interventions focusing on transdiagnostic factors.
Ralf Peeters is a professor of Mathematics of Knowledge Engineering and vice-chair of the Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering.
Paul Volders works as a Cardiologist at Maastricht UMC+. He is a professor of Genetic Cardiology at Maastricht University, as well as a principal investigator at CARIM, the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht. Within Maastricht UMC+, he coordinates medical care for patients with hereditary heart diseases.
Emmy Mevissen (@emmymevissen) is trained as an illustrator and visually shapes HeArt Ma'at, designing logos and photographing events. In this project, her interest in people with stories and science beautifully converges. She enjoys exploring new paths and approaches in her work, always bringing fresh perspectives regardless of the story or material.
