Give to...equal opportunities for students
Still to go
Higher education is not a possibility for everyone. Support from parents and one’s environment is not a given. Moreover, the gap in opportunities is constantly increasing. This is also true for ‘first generation students’. These are young people who are the first in their family to attend university. Research shows that they are often unable to pursue higher education because of various social and financial barriers. Our fund wants to make scholarship programmes available for these students. Will you contribute to equal opportunities for all?
About project owner Jo Ritzen
Prof. dr. Jo Ritzen is professorial fellow of International Economics of Science, Technology and Higher Education at the UNU Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) and Maastricht Graduate School of Governance. He was previously Dutch Minister for Education and Science and President of Maastricht University.
All donations contribute to the Jo Ritzen scholarship, which is intended for talented first generation students who wish to study at Maastricht University. ''In this way, we can make sure that everyone gets an equal chance to study,'' says initiator and Professor Jo Ritzen (r. in picture). Recently, Thaïs Gautry (l. in picture) received this year’s Jo Ritzen scholarship. Thaïs: “I am incredibly grateful for this scholarship. I am aware that this is a beautiful opportunity for me. By succeeding in my studies, and eventually getting a job in the legal field, I hope I will be able to fight for other people’s rights and give a voice to the voiceless.”
For Each Other 2021
Over the past 12 months, Maastricht University again devoted itself to the important tasks of education and research, with the ultimate aim of building a better society. As ever, the University Fund Limburg/SWOL supports the university in this effort. But your support is essential, too. Together, we will make this project a success! Are you there For Each Other?
